Atkin Automation's expertise in the control of steel strip comes from over 70 years experience in manufacturing high quality coil processing equipment, based on the Atkin and BHP product ranges, for a wide range of international industry sectors.
From its modern UK factory in Thetford, Norfolk, Atkin Automation also integrates its coil processing equipment with punching, notching, shearing, roll forming and other automated equipment to create the production lines demanded by the many manufacturing companies which process high volumes of metal strip during product manufacture.
Manufacturing companies have traditionally taken a long term view on capital equipment investment, demanding high quality, long lasting coil processing equipment supported by excellent customer service and support. However, changing economic climates have, in some instances, necessitated the adoption of stricter controls on capital investment.
In order to be able to meet these changing market requirements, Atkin Automation has entered into an exclusive agreement with Taiwanese manufacturer Shung Dar, adding this manufacturer’s cost effective coil handling and coil processing equipment to its portfolio, which sit comfortably alongside the Atkin and BHP ranges.

All Atkin Automation customers place a heavy dependence upon the equipment supplied by the company in meeting daily production targets, and the availability of spare parts and the provision of service engineers is vitally important in today’s just-in-time manufacturing environment.
Atkin Automation is the only authorised OEM repairer of Atkin and BHP machines, and its service engineers have access to full drawings, parts and spares lists for all Atkin and BHP products supplied over the last twenty five years, and in some cases for those supplied as long ago as 1970.
Its service engineers carry a full set of the most commonly used spare parts so that many machine breakdowns can be overcome on the first visit. As well as being equipped with diagnostic computer systems, the engineers also carry the specialist equipment needed to analyse and rectify many drive problems.
As well as an emergency call out service, Atkin Automation also offers its customers annual service engineering and maintenance contracts.

W.T. Atkin and BHP were both long established UK companies providing engineering and industrial automation solutions to a wide variety of international industries. They were owned by Robert Hyde & Son (Holdings) Limited for a number of years, but in early 2004 a change of policy by the parent company meant that these two subsidiaries were no longer compatible with its investment portfolio.
The senior management team of both the companies believed passionately in their high quality British manufactured products and, with the support of international bankers HSBC, Atkin Automation was formed to acquire the assets and intellectual property rights of both W.T. Atkin and BHP.
Today Atkin Automation is a profitable British manufacturer of production lines for industries which need to process metal strip as part of their volume production operations. The company is entirely owned by its employees, and its ethos is to provide innovative high quality products and turnkey automation solutions on time and within budget.
Since the recent expansion of the EU, Atkin Automation has worked with a growing number of companies which are establishing production facilities in Eastern Europe, building machines and production lines at its UK manufacturing facility, shipping them to site and providing a complete local installation and commissioning service.
