INDUTEC – Boost for Mining Sector Valve Suppliers

Product News Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Worldwide demand for industrial valves has been growing by 5,5% annually since 2011, and will reach $94-billion by 2015. Almost 29% of this demand, worth $26,8-billion, is coming from the global mining sector. This solid demand provides a welcome opportunity for valve manufacturers and suppliers in South Africa to satisfy demand from local mining operations, and also explore the multiplicity of opportunities arising in international markets.

“These compelling statistics are just some of the reasons why there’s a strong presence of valve suppliers at this year’s show,” says John Thomson, Managing Director of Exhibition Management Services, organiser of the Pumps Valves & Pipes Africa (PVPA) trade show. PVPA is this year one of the 10 sectoral events that make up SA Industry and Technology Fair – INDUTEC.

Valve Manufacturers Gearing up for Global Demand

“Local valve manufacturers and suppliers are looking beyond borders to the rest of the world for new business partners and new customers,” adds Thomson.

Roelf Frauendorf, National Sales Manager for Premier Valves, says the Pumps Valves & Pipes Africa Expo in 2011 improved the company’s exposure in the market and delivered valued access to new customers and markets.

“Recent challenges in the mining industry have actually created more new opportunities for us,” says Frauendorf. “Reduced production outputs and low commodity prices mean we can offer customers more cost-effective solutions such as refurbishing existing valves,” he adds.

Premier Valves is using PVPA 2013 to showcase its range of products and services. New on the list are diaphragm valves, rubber-lined resilient seated gate valves and ceramic lined valves.

The company’s mining sector product list is comprehensive and includes resilient seated gate valves, rubber lined gate valves, butterfly valves, high pressure gate valves, pressure reducing stations for deep mining, knife gate valves for slurry and process applications and ceramic lined valves for severe applications.

Frauendorf sees only growth and opportunity ahead for local valve manufacturers in mining. “We are already involved in projects with Harmony, Anglo and Goldfields, and there is continual growth from new mines being developed in all parts of the globe. I think that South African expertise in valve manufacturing can easily be applied to international mining developments.”

Another upbeat repeat exhibitor is KSB, one of the few OEMs in the local valve industry. The company is exhibiting for the second time with two key objectives.

“We will be leveraging our presence at PVPA as an Original Equipment Manufacturer in the valve market in order to establish relationships with potential customers,” says Valve Division Manager John Smith. “We operate across the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa where there is constant development in mining.”

Fourth Time For Enserve

Back at PVPA for a fourth time, Enserve Engineering Services will be showcasing a new range of valves from Germany and low emission locally-produced valves.

“We always get great quality exposure; we generate a lot of interest and always get new clients,” says Managing Director Steven Bannister. “Our participation in PVPA has always produced great results!”

Valve supplier LVSA Group will be using this year’s show to identify new markets and explore new business ventures for its range of anti-leakage and sediment reduction valves.

“Our target is now international companies,” says General Manager Seelan Pillay. “Africa is the place that holds the most opportunity for my industry and PVPA can facilitate the company’s expansion.”
