In the modern world, there is a lot of pressure for businesses to behave responsibly in an eco-friendly sense, and keep one eye on the environment at all times. At Airedale Springs, this is something that we’re very keen on, and indeed our own standards of environmental performance have been acknowledged in the past. However, we’re always looking to do more in this area, so here are a few tips that we have picked up on to help your eco-friendly business plans:

Recycle and Reuse

The most basic steps for any environmentally minded business to take, recycling and reusing are invaluable. Keep recycling bins in clear sight within your premises, and pool together scrap paper and stationery to ensure that it doesn’t get wasted. Try double-sided printing too. Make a point of reminding your employees about such practices using posters and the like, and you’ll soon see your carbon footprint going down.

Reduce Waste

Regulating paper usage might be one thing, but how about if you could get rid of it entirely? That would be even better! Prioritise things like email correspondence over using paper wherever possible, and don’t forget to cut out waste in other areas too. Energy and water usage are often far higher than they need to be, so be sensible with your heating, and remember to incorporate water saving devices into your systems if at all possible.

Turning Things Off

An off-shoot from the previous point, this problem is so common that we really think it deserves its own category. Turning off equipment when it is not in use can do wonders for energy usage and your carbon footprint. In some situations, we’re talking about literally halving your costs. Whether your equipment is simple computers within an office, or more unusual devices like our spring manufacturing machinery, if you’re not using them, turn them off!

Travel

Every business has employees, and think of how much your business could be contributing in an eco-friendly sense if you could encourage your staff to use economical travel arrangements. Public transport, car shares, bike schemes and walking are all much better than jumping in the car, but you might also consider working from home possibilities as well (where possible). On top of this, telephone or video networking can save on travel expenses even further, so there’s no shortage of options to do your bit.

A modern choice for a modern world, storing your data on a cloud system means that your employees can access all information from any location. This cuts down on paper usage, means that they don’t have to travel to view physical records, and also optimises productivity and profits.
