Car wash reclamation system offers 90% water savings

Sustainable water usage
Biozone/Back2Wash offers a car wash reclamation system which will treat the waste water from the wash and enable this to be recycled back to the car wash water source.
Better than 90% savings on water consumption should result.
For example, based on a requirement for 40-50 cars per day and 2 wash guns in the wash bay, the plant will use 5000 litres of water per day.
On a typical car wash in a Municipality, regulations insist on the provision of an SOG pit with 3 chambers to treat the water before being allowed in to the sewer reticulation. The Biozone/Back2Wash system will pump out of this sump in to the bioreactors/bio-filters.
The 5000 liters per day system will consist of:
- 2 x 2500 liters chemical grade plastic tanks which will house the aerated biological treatment systems.
- A filter pump, filters and distribution board will be also be supplied.
- A high level overflow and foam baffle pipework to the sewer line as well as municipal clean water top-up pipework will be part of the installation.
A 5000 liters rain water storage tank can also be supplied for top-up purposes.
Complete wash bay cleaning systems can be provided for start-up plants.
Design parameters:
- COD influent: 300 mg/liter
- Flow rate: 100 – 150 liters per vehicle
- Total flow: 5000 litres per day
The system generally takes 2 weeks from start-up to optimize itself. Foaming can occasionally be seen during the initial start-up period, but settles down once the bacteria colonize the media. We do recommend staff use low foam, biodegradable soap in a conservative manner for optimum plant performance.
The system is designed to avoid complicated operation and built to suit harsh African conditions.
