Long-established Starrett brand of high-quality hole saws makes the cut in all applications
Product News Friday, May 31, 2013: First Cut (Pty) Ltd
A number of industries rely on hole saws to produce a regularly shaped, smooth-edged hole. Uncompromising quality is demanded for both precision and aesthetics. First Cut, a leading distributor of quality cutting equipment and consumables to the local market, believes that a supplier’s track record is the best indicator of anticipated cutting results.
“First Cut’s 35-year association with Starrett is characterised by mutual respect and synergistic business philosophies. Both companies place emphasis on researching the needs of the market and providing products that provide increased efficiency and high-quality finishes. Exemplary customer service forms an integral part of the successful formula which aligns experienced and knowledgeable employees with industry-targeted products,” says Gary Willis, Sales Director for local Starrett distributor, First Cut.
Innovation is the underlying tenet of Starrett’s success and a wide range of hole saws bears testimony to this. The development of its bi-metal technology provided Starrett with a distinct market edge. “On the front of the blade tooth there are two high-speed steel cutting surfaces, separated by the carrier. The carrier strip wears when cutting begins, and the wear forms a small U-shaped groove between the two edges. The groove remains at a constant depth, wearing at the same rate as the teeth,” explains Willis.
“The major advantage provided by this technology is that it eliminates the heat-affected zone normally produced when cutting is in progress. The result is the blade runs cooler and the teeth last longer,” adds Willis. Bi-metal hole saws are equally at home cutting wood, metal and steel.
In addition to the popular bi-metal products, Starrett produces a number of hole saws developed for specific industries including industrial, engineering, electrical wholesalers and installers, DIY enthusiasts, retailers and building contractors
.
“Starrett hole saws serve a multitude of market sectors, each with the need for long-lasting equipment, backed by high customer service levels. Clients expect the guarantee that is associated with a brand such as Starrett and this very market pressure is what drives Starrett to consistently bring benchmark products to market,” says Willis.
The Starrett sheet metal hole saw variation is used for mild steel sheets, plasterboard, wood and thin non-metallic products. Core drills have diamond impregnation for drilling through bricks, concrete and hardened steel. A cordless hole saw is perfect for projects where no power is available or site conditions require extreme mobility.
Starrett’s tungsten carbide tipped (TCT) hole saws have two carbide strobes that allow penetration of timber, while simultaneously preventing congestion of the blade’s cutting edge. These hole saws have an ultra-high hardness which makes them the ideal solution for cutting difficult and abrasive materials such as PVC and fibreglass.
Starrett has compiled 14 different hole saw kits, comprising various size configurations, for various trades. These include plumbers, carpenters, the automotive trade, locksmiths, general industry, and general maintenance.
“The Starrett name is synonymous with a premium brand that continues to deliver long-lasting products for a wide footprint of market sectors. Intensive research and development, coupled with feedback acquired from industry clients, has resulted in a range of hole saws that add value to customers who insist on precision and consistency,” Willis concludes.
