Aveng Manufacturing Infraset: International sales of concrete sleepers and the establishment of the
Company News Wednesday, May 21, 2014: Aveng Infraset
Concrete sleepers have been the preferred choice of material for more than 50 years both locally and internationally; its popularity may be due to its characteristic to maintain its geometry regardless of the conditions in which it is placed.
Aveng Manufacturing Infraset experienced an unprecedented demand for their concrete railway sleepers since last year, most of these sleepers were exported from South Africa to Mozambique and Zambia.
Aveng Manufacturing Infraset supplies various types of concrete sleepers and has been at the forefront of concrete sleeper production for some time. All its concrete-sleeper factories are SABS and ISO accredited; which ensures that all products follow strict production procedures such as the sampling and testing of raw materials according to prescribed sampling plans.
One of the projects in Zambia saw the delivery of 730 truckloads of sleepers to Livingstone within a period of 12 weeks. The team at Aveng Manufacturing Infraset had to devise a method to export sleepers as break bulk in strapped bundles which resulted in reducing the time it takes to load and unload bundles as well as to limit any potential damage to the sleepers.
Due to the high demand a factory in Tete, Mozambique, was established and operates under the Aveng Mocambique Limitada entity. The factory is focused on railway sleepers and has successfully started production early in February; it manufactures precast concrete sleepers, pipes and culverts.
