Rapid Prototype Machining
Rapid prototype machining is the process of using computer aided design (CAD) models and fast machining techniques to quickly fabricate a component. Traditionally, rapid prototype machining has been accomplished with additive methods, in which the product is divided into a large number of thin slices in the CAD model and the part is fabricated by depositing material in each thin layer. Stereolithography and 3D printing are two common forms of additive manufacturing. With advances in technology, rapid prototype machining is now being accomplished by highly accurate CNC systems that deliver production quality components.
